A LOVE STORY
Mima is originally from Cardenas, Cuba but grew up in bustling Havana. Mima loved to cook and feed all. Everyone in Havana knew Mima for her food, but Mima was also known for her jaw dropping beauty. Pictured throughout the walls of La Bodeguita de Mima you will discover a young, breath-taking pageant winner, Mima! With an unparalleled beauty Mima won multiple pageant awards. Mima even claimed the prestigious award of Ms. Cuba multiple times. To this day the room stops when Mima enters any room. Not only was Mima a continual pageant winner and acclaimed cook but she also regularly performed at the prestigious world-famous club Tropicana in Havana. While preforming and competing Fernando Sr. was able to win her heart, and later had two wonderful kids: Ingrid and Fernando Martinez.
In 1994, due to the changing political environment in Cuba, Fernando and Mima built a homemade raft and set sail on a journey to the United States. Well floating nearly 90 miles they arrived just outside of Key West, Florida when they were picked up by the United States Coast Guard. After months in Guantanamo Bay they were accepted in the United States. This is where it all begun… the passion, the sacrifice, and the heart to pursue the dream!

“Not all love letters are about romance, this one is about love, sacrifice and family”
Every culture has an affectionate name for the matriarch of the family. Mawmaw, Nonna, Yai-yai, and in Cuban culture it is MIMA. This restaurant is our letter to Mima!
La Bodeguita de Mima has been a dream of Owners, Chefs, and cousins Fernando and Yaniel Martinez. From early childhood they discovered their passion for food and family. Learning all they could as children from their mothers and their abuela(grandmother) Ela’s kitchens. Those memories are some of the fondest from their childhood and helped develop the love and passion for Cuban cuisine. La Bodeguita de Mima is about family, our love, the sacrifice, and our Cuba.
You will all get to meet her soon! She only answers to Mima so make sure to say: Hola MIMA!
